Step 5

HOME RUN POWER IN SLOW PITCH SOFTBALL STARTS WITH HIP ROTATION

Step 5 – Assuming the pitch is a strike, it is time to pull the bat through the strike zone and hit the tar out of the softball.  I found that my muscle memory usually takes over at this point and I swing the bat through the strike zone pretty hard at the softball, often connecting for a good hard shot.

It is not always a perfect at-bat, particularly because there is a lot of motion in my softball swing, but as I get older I am finding that I have to do things to help increase my power.  The young kids may still have the strength and limberness to hit hard shots (I know I did when I was younger), but old age is setting in and I just have to find unconventional ways to increase softball hitting power for my slow pitch game.  If you see the young kids doing the same when batting in slow pitch, look out because you might be getting some serious heaters coming your way!
